Why copying activities are important

Copying activities encourage children’s hand-eye coordination. When children draw different geometric shapes, their brains compare the resulting drawings with the original shapes. This process strengthens visual-motor integration and fine motor skills of the hands and fingers.

Activities in which children copy and draw basic geometric shapes reinforce the concept of constancy of shape and size and stimulate the acquisition of basic graphomotor, fine-motor and pre-writing skills that later play an important role in the development of writing and other important fine-motor skills.
