Why tracing activities are important

Tracing activities stimulate child’s eye - hand coordination. When children follow dotted lines or other kind of lines with pencils or with another drawing tools, they simultaneously follow and compare their evolving lines with original ones. This process strengthen visual-motor integration and fine-motor hand and fingers movements control.  

 

Tracing activities stimulate acquisition of basic graphomotor, fine-motor and pre-writing skills and competences which later play important role in development of writing and other important fine-motor skills.

Worksheets and activities in this workbook

 

Workbook contains 98 worksheets designed for strengthening children’s graphomotor skills by tracing different horizontal and vertical lines. Lines are drawn as sets of dots which children should follow during drawing. Lines differ in their length and spacing between the dots.

 

Children should not change the position of the sheet, or rotate it, while drawing. They should be encouraged to draw each line in a single stroke, without stopping or shifting the drawing tool.

 

Activities and tasks difficulty increase throughout the workbook in two ways:

• by increasing lengths of the lines,

• by increasing the spacing between the dots.
